Do I have to change banks to use the MBS High-Speed Credit Card Processing solution?
A.
No. Credit cards continue to be processed through the clearinghouse you
currently use.
Q.
Can I use The Gateway on all of my current registers?
A.
High-Speed Credit Card/Debit-with-PIN Authorization will work only on the IBM
4693 and 4694 registers. It will not work with the older 4683 POS registers
that are not Ethernet capable.
Q.
How soon can I get started?
A.
It takes approximately 30 days to set up and activate credit card processing.
Debit card setup and activation can take up to 150 days. This is based on the
debit-specific bank certification and security encryption processes that must
always be followed.
Q.
Will I have to put in extra phone lines?
A.
No. The Gateway is connected via your campus network,
DSL, or ISP.
Q.
Are my transactions secure?
A.
All transaction data sent from the MBS POS system is fully encrypted. Data
encryption is the process of scrambling stored or transmitted information (this
takes place on the store POS Controller) so that it is unintelligible until it
is unscrambled by the intended recipient. In this case, the intended recipient
is the Lethoff server farm which houses the most secure servers in the world,
the IBM iSeries servers. (The iSeries server is a government trusted and used
server that has never been hacked into.) After the data has passed through the
server farm, it will then travel on a closed line to your clearinghouse for
approval. A closed line means that the line cannot be reached by any outside
sources. After approval or denial, the data will again be encrypted at The
Gateway and sent back to the requesting store controller. The store controller
will decrypt the transaction data and present it to the transaction-initiating
POS terminal.
Q.
What happens if the campus backbone goes down?
A.
If your Internet connection via the campus backbone fails, our optional
redundancy plan will give you the ability to use campus backbone/DSL/ISP as
your primary or secondary connection.
Q.
Does this product give me the ability to do signature capture and check verification?
A.
Yes. The Verifone Omni 7100 MPD supports signature capture and check
verification.
Q.
Can I use The Gateway whenever I want?
A.
Yes. You will be given unlimited access to The Gateway every day of the year
(In the event that Lethoff needs to perform normal server and OS maintenance,
they will schedule it during non-peak hours.)
Q.
What are my responsibilities as a store to prepare for the implementation of MBS Systems' High-Speed Credit Card Processing Solution?
A.
The store is responsible for all
connectivity. This means:
.
Institutional stores need to arrange
connectivity to the campus backbone for Internet connection to The Gateway.
This includes any necessary network equipment or assistance with the Campus IT
department.
.
Private stores are responsible for their private ISP set
up and fees.
.
Stores need to acquire new Verifone Omni 7100 Pin Pads
from MBS for each POS terminal that will be used to
process debit cards with PIN.
Q.
What am I getting in the Verifone Omni 7100 Pin Pad?
A.
The Omni 7100 comes with many high-quality user-friendly features. It includes
ATM-style interface, smart landscape design, large keys, and Everest-style card
reader. Also included in the Omni 7100 is a powerful 32-bit processor, 3MB of
memory, and a 3DES and PED compliant PINpad.
You will also receive the following at no extra cost:
.
Generic overlay
22647-01
.
RS232 cable 03018-05
.
Power supply 04250-01
.
Everest multi-port cable
13984-01
.
SPS Encryption
.
1-year warranty
Q.
How fast is High-Speed Credit Card/Debit-with-PIN Processing via The Gateway?
A.
The traditional dial-up connection generally takes about 10-15 seconds for a
response. With The Gateway, you will see a response typically under 3 seconds,
and depending on card type, even faster speeds are possible.
Q.
Why offer customers debit in addition to credit?
A.
Debit transactions offer merchants transaction-processing cost savings since
banks charge a substantially lower transaction cost for debit transactions as
compared to that of credit transactions. (These charges may vary from bank to
bank.)
Q.
What happens when my authorizer requires changes?
A.
Authorizer changes are implemented automatically and certified by Lethoff.
Q:
How does The Gateway system work?
A:
The cashier swipes the credit or debit card in the Verifone Omni Pin Pad. At
that time, the 4693 or 4694 POS register sends the information to the store
controller. The controller sends the encrypted data to the campus backbone
and/or Internet which takes the data to Lethoff, then goes on a closed line to
your clearinghouse which confirms or denies the transaction. The information is
then sent back to Lethoff where it is once again encrypted and routed back to
the cashier. The following diagram illustrates how this process works.
